Just today, I began to read the book Girl 15 Charming but Insane by Sue Limb. I am not done yet but just reading what I have read so far I have a good idea of what type of person the main character Jess is.
At first when I started to read this book just by the cover I thought it was just your regular book about teenage girls and there normal life. With school, non-understanding parents and boys. However, as I got into the book I did notice that, that was what the book consisted of but it told the story in new funnier ways. I think it was because of the ways Jess handled her situations she came encounter with, were things that not every day teens would do. Jess went through many problems as of what I have read so far. Like any other girl in life, goes through like how sometimes you may envy what other people have weather its material or just growing in ways or places, you do not.
During reading the book, I did refer back to my social justice unit that I am studying in school now. I did think deeply that it was not just Jess wanting what others had. It showed me how girls do go through extreme lengths to get what others have. In the book, there is a big party but while Jess is getting ready, she feels that every other girl more developed in the chest area, so Jess decides to stuff her bra with bags of soup to feel like the other girls. That was just one of the extreme ways girls try to be like others Also her stuffing her bra wasn’t just to be like other girls it was to impress the boy she liked. I think it is the point that some people try to make when they say that magazines advertise women that have big boobs are butts. Today in America most women struggle with there image and self-confidence, and this books was really a way to show how some teenagers deal with it.
I have not finished the book but i am only 45 pages in and this is they ideas i have gotten from the book, I cannot wait to finish it and see what other crazy things jess does just to fit in.

A Disobedient Girl .... Or not ?
This week I've begin to read the book A Disobedient Girl a novel by Ru Freeman in the book there are actually to books combined and in each chapter they go back in forth from book to book. Therefore, there are more then one main character the two main characters names are Latha and Bisco. Even though they live life completely separate ways in the end it is all the same. In the end, the stories tie together in an unexpected way.
To me this book was about today’s modern day slavery and a woman that is abused by her tyrannical husband. Even though Latha is a servant, she knows she is not meant to be. In the book when she is thinking, something comes to her mind, which is a quote. The quote states “I was born for the finer things, like the rose smelling soap I steal from the family that I’ve worked for since I was five, and the glasses of fresh lime juice I help my self to after a long day.” After I read this quote it lead me to think, I mean I know all slaves know there not mean t to be slaves, but Latha just doesn’t want to be free she wants to live the wealthy, high society life that her masters live. Nevertheless, in my eyes there has been a highlight to her working for the family even though she felt the family has spoiled daughter Thara. Along the years, Latha and Thara became best friends. Latha and Thara becoming friends did not seem likely to me because, if I had to work for a family is to me it would be awkward to be there daughter’s friend. The other main character Bisco who is a hard working mother of three children. However, her life changes dramatically when she risks every thing to escape her uncontrollable husband who beats her on a daily bases. Even though Bisco and Latha's stories are completely different and so are there lives it seems to tie together when they help each other accomplish the goal of freedom and higher beings of life.
This book really connects to real life things because yes, everyday modern slavery goes on and yes, everyday millions of women fall victim to physical and verbal abuse. From this book, I think Ru Freeman wanted the readers like me to take away that no matter which you are or what situation life throws if your try hard enough you can come out on top. Just like Latha and Bisco even though they’ve been through a lot they keep on going and that have dreams and goals they want to achieve in life.

Which color am I ? And which color are you ?
This week I have read and seen the movie to book For Colored Girls by Ntozake Shange. Even though the books title is for colored girls, I think the book can address most females in the world no matter the color or race. I read the book before I watched the movie because outside of school, I have a club and our assignment was to read the book so we can all go see the movie together.
When I read the book it was not anything like the movie the book was filled with poems that told stories in very interesting ways. To me they weren’t just poems or stories to me it spoke out like it was a special book all written for me that’s how good the book really grabbed my mind and ran with it. I loved all the little details she added and the words she used to describe a scene or how one of the characters felt, it was not just good it like a perfect fit to what the poem described. In addition, at the end the poems all came together as if they were teaching a lesson. The book made me dig deep down in my mind and think about what this mean or what she meant by saying that. I have come up with so many thoughts and ideas about what she may have wanted us to think and I realized that every girl is supposed to take the book differently. Some may take it as I did and really connect it to how the girls handled certain situations. Moreover, some probably cannot connect themselves to the situations at all because they have never been in them.
While watching the movie I saw how different it was from the book. The movies came to surface with, the struggles the characters went through are what some or most women in American go through in there daily life. It was like the book came to life and everything was graphic and you could get a better understanding. The movie did fill in many blank pieces I had about the book. The movie wasn’t to different from the book as in plot wise but as in the actual movie to me it really was about how women go through hard times in life due to men, death or just dealing with the struggles in everyday life. To me the movie was better then the book because even though it was a movie, they still recited the poems and showed which scene went with each poem. My favorite part of the movie was at the end when all the girls collaborated on the last poem and they shared there struggles and the lesson they learned from it.
Overall the movie and book would have to be my favorite movie and book so far this year another thing I learned from the movie was the title colored girls didn’t mean what I thought I meant its not race colors its colors as in blue yellow … etc. the colors represented which color each character was. At the end of the movie, it had me thinking about which color I was.
Am I a bright yellow?
A dull gray?
A pure white?
Or a bright pretty pink?
I could not come up with an answer, but you tell me. What color do you think you are? Because we are all colored girls.

Tyrell
This week I am reading the book Tyrell by Coe Booth. The books about the main character Tyrell who was facing making very tough decisions for him and his family. Tyrell had to deal with his dad being locked up and his mother not being responsible enough to take care of him and his brother. Tyrell had to grow up quick to handle the situations he was put in. A very big issue that Tyrell was put through was peer pressure and poverty.
Peer pressure came into the story as a big problem because of poverty. When Tyrell and his family had to enter a shelter because they had no place to live , Tyrell was being pressured to sell drugs with his friend to make money to support his family. While reading the book I noticed how Tyrell did face many situations usually someone his age would not be in but he handled them in most of the time better ways then most people would.
Nevertheless, while reading the book it was not all bad times. Tyrell did have good things happen to him not only in the end but also through out his story. However, in the end is where I really saw how Tyrell handled the tough situations in his life responsibly and sort of like an adult. Overall the book really showed me the struggle some people have to go through in order to live there life everyday and Tyrell was the perfect example of how anyone can do what they have to do to survive. Like at the end when he threw a big party and sacrificed his little amount of money on the hope that his party would be successful and he would make enough money to support and get his family out the shelter. I think this book if perfect for kids my age and they should read it.

World on Fire
This week I have decided to blog about a song, but we did not only listen to the song we also read the lyrics and wrote down our ideas. The song we listened to was World On Fire by Sarah McLachlan. When we actually got a chance to see the video my whole idea of what I thought it was about changed. In the video there were captions and it showed how she spent 150,000 dollars on the video, but the captions also showed how the 150,000 didn't go towards the video it went to people in need all over the world.
The video really made me think of what to most Americans is a little to people in need of food and water can go along way. For example 3,000 dollars can by 109,50 meals for people in another country. Today in America, most people worry about material things and name brand attire, but in countries like Kenya, India and way more they barely even have food and water to survive and stay alive. This makes me think back to many moments where I wanted something and was disappointed or upset when my parents did not get it for me. Now I am very fortunate and thankful for the things that god has blessed me with. Like even though most days I hate going to school, some people do not even get the opportunity to get an education and do extra activities like we get to do in Ms.51 like our talents.
The video really explained how the little amounts of money could go a very, very far way. Like even the littlest thing to you may mean the world to someone less fortunate. Have you ever complained and said hey mom I do not want to drink water I want juice well even though you maybe be fortunate enough to have a choice of what you may want to eat or drink. However, the video really made me think of how the littlest things in your life can change someone else’s.

Ending of Charlottes web
Now that I have finished Charlotte’s Web I have a whole new look at the characters and the things that happen at the begging of the book. At the begging of the book, we saw how Fern and Wilbur were inseparable but that shortly ended when Mr. Arable told Fern that Wilbur could no longer stay in their household and they would have to sell him. Fern was sad about that but quickly came up with an idea for her to sell him to her uncle Mr. Zuckerman who lived right up the road from the Arable. This broke Fern and Wilbur’s heart but it had to be done.
When Wilbur moved Fern would come from school everyday, sit with Wilbur for hours, and just watch him play. To me Fern did not take the move that hard but Wilbur on the other hand was not doing to good. As I kept on reading, I read how Wilbur was very lonely and friendless. Wilbur was the youngest animal there, all the other animals acted harsh towards him, and he felt he would never find anyone like Fern. Wilbur just hung around his pigpen day after day with no one to talk to and nothing to do. Wilbur felt this way until one night in the dark he heard a voice of someone telling him that they would be his friend. In addition, to his surprise, it was a little spider name Charlotte. I think charlotte rather became Ferns replacement in Wilbur’s life since Fern was not there as much as she uses to be. Charlotte ended up becoming like a mother to little Wilbur and he was very grateful for her.
Through out the middle of the book Wilbur got some terrible news about what the Zuckerman’s planned to do when the Christmas holiday came around and Wilbur wasn’t to happy about it. Even though Wilbur dodged death ounce before he did not think he could do it again. Nevertheless, little did he know the little spider he met would come to his rescue. Some ideas I had about charlottes character through the middle and ending of the book was that she and Fern were very alike. Like for example how they acted like a mother figure to Wilbur. However, they also had many differences even thought Fern was like a mother figure charlotte was more of a mother figure. Charlotte came off as a wise mother figure she gave Wilbur very insightful suggestions he could use through out life. In addition, since Fern was still very young, she could not provide that for Wilbur. Towards the ending of the book like always in a child book everything turned out to be fine except for one little spin that I was very surprised by but of course your would have to read the book to find out.
After reading this book when I was done reading it, I felt very different then I felt when I read the first couple of chapters. To me this book taught me the gift of having family or friends who care for you and would do anything for you. It also taught me to be great full of the people in my life. Charlotte’s web is truly a childhood favorite.

Charlottes Web
This week my class and I have recently started the book Charlotte's web. In the first chapter were introduced to Fern and her family and the little runt Wilbur. When I first started reading Charlotte's web I looked at Fern as a bright and careful young girl because the way she pointed out to her father how killing Wilbur because of his size was wrong she mad very understanding points for a 8 year old girl. I also think Fern related herself to the pig in that situation when she asked her dad if he would kill her just because she was small. Fern came off as a very courageous person in the beginning of the story
Even though I am still in the begging chapters of the book, I can already tell that Fern and Wilbur have a very strong bond and I do not think anyone would be able to break that not even ferns dad or a little separation of distance. Fern plays a strong mother role to Wilbur and you can tell she really loves him she takes care of him as if he is her own child and that shows how she cares for him deeply. I do not think Fern is the only one who has a soft spot in her heart for Wilbur; I also think her dad does to. I think Mr. Arable also feels that killing Wilbur is wrong. Because he could have easily said no , and not let Fern keep Wilbur and have killed him but he did’t he gave her a chance to fight for something she really believed in and that shows that he’s not all bad he can also do right.
Nevertheless, Fern and her dad was not the only one who developed strong feelings, Wilbur the pig also became attached to the whole family and life style they were providing him. I can also connect my self to Fern and Wilbur’s relationship with me and my dog not just because it’s a animal and human relationship but because we have became so connected to each other and it feels as if nothing can separate us and that’s how Fern and Wilbur are. In addition, even though fern is young and usually young children are fascinated with animals fern is not just interested in Wilbur she really loves him and by her saving his life and taking care of him you can tell that is a bond that could never be broken.
Soon I will be finishing the book and I hope to learn more about Wilbur and Fern and see where there relationship goes. However, so far, I give this book an A+ at keeping me drawn in and I cannot wait to get deeper into the book.

A Lost Soul...
This week I've decided to write about a book my teacher read in class. The name of the book is FOX by Margret wild. In the book there is 3 characters and there names are Magpie who is a bird,Dog and Fox.
When we first start the story we see Magpie and she has a burnt wing and she feels as if she will never fly again. But her friend dog assures her that life is still good even without her being able to fly. Then dog tells her that she can be his eye and he will be her wings. Then he runs through the woods with her on his back. But that doesn't make Magpie feel better she still feels that shes nothing without her wings.
After they come back from there run. A Fox appears out of the bush's. When he comes out of the woods he tells dog that he saw him running and he thought he was really good. Dog offered fox to stay with them. When magpie first saw fox she didn't get a good feeling about him. I think Magpie was right to try to warn dog about fox but dog didn't listen. That night while dog was sleeping fox tried to persuade Magpie to run away with him. But Magpie said no she said she would never leave dog. I think fox is a really lonely.
One morning when dog was still sleeping fox tried to persuade Magpie to run away again and this time she did. Fox put her on his back and they ran out far into the desert. Then he stopped and Magpie got off. When magpie got off he said "now I'm going to show you and dog how it feels to be alone." At this point in the book i felt really bad for Magpie. Also thin fox was a very miserable fox and he wanted dog and Magpie to feel how he felt. I think it was a little bit of Magpies fault because shes the one who actually left dog.The book shows that u shouldn't take what you have for granted because what you have today may not be there tomorrow.

This week i read the book contents under pressure by Lara. M Zeises. In the book there's a 14 year old girl named Lucy and she feels like a loser because shes never been kissed. Plus things get worse because all her friends have left her for boys. also a favorite brother comes home from college with a new girlfriend and Lucy feels left out. Then one day in the hallway Tobin scacheri a junior in her high school bumps into her in the hallway and that's when Lucy starts to like him. i think the book shows that everyone is different in there own way and you should choose your friends carefully. i think the way Lucy's friends all left her for boys was really wrong it showed that they weren't really friends to begin with. Through out the book lucy finds love and learns how to live life. the book was really fun to read i loved it.

The Glass Castle
the book the glass castle by Jeannette Walls it was a great book to read to me it was more of a biography then a story . in the book its about jennette walls and her family and her child hood. it started when one night jennette was on her way to a party and she saw her mother rumbling through a garbage can in NEW york city. then thats when she takes us back to a memory of her young child hood. Jennette walls grew up with 3 siblings. In also in the book we saw that they lived a hard life . she lived with a alchoholic father, who manipulates and uses his wife and his children for his own needs and yet never stops loving them and hoping they love him.really the book is about the adventure Jeannette Walls and her dysfunctional family takes throughout their lives until the four children are old enough to move away from their parents and start over as normal as possible. Jeannette’s father, Rex Walls, is an alcoholic who lives life doing the “skedaddle”, running away when you did not have anymore money, and they would go from town, to town living life like scavengers because there was never enough of anything for them since Rex could not hold a job very long and Rose Mary Walls was a struggling artist. When sober, Jeannette's brilliant and charismatic father captured his children's imagination, teaching them physics, architecture, math, astrology and how to embrace life fearlessly, which they did with ease because they had to learn at a young age to fend for themselves. After embracing the fact that they were all truly brilliant and life does not have to be what it is, the children make a plan to get away from their parents and start over in New York. They all find a way to build new lifes for themselves. I rate the book a 100/100 it show that all people have hard times in their life.

TTFN
The Book TTFN was about three teenage girls who were best friends. They were in their Junior year of high school, and everything was good until it all came crashing down. One the of three named Angela thought her parents were becoming a lot more distant and she felt like they were hiding something from her. She thought they were getting her a car but that was not it. Her friends kept on telling her to stay positive and that's what Angela did until, One night her parents took her out to eat and told her they were moving to California, and that was about 3,000 miles from where she lived now. Her friends hated the idea as much as Angela did they didn't want her to move.Zoe one of the three friends was starting to like a the guy who liked Angela for along time but him and Angela broke up, and Zoe hadn't told her yet. When Angela did find out about Zoe's crush on Doug, Angela didn't take it to well. Her and Zoe got into an argument. Zoe kept telling her she was sorry and soon after Angela accepted her apology. While all this was happening their third best friend Maddie was getting into drugs and doing bad things this was all because of a guy named Clive. The girls tried to tell her that what she was doing was bad, but she didn't want to think about it. Finally one day Maddie told her friends she got caught and she was grounded, but on a happy note the girls all got another big surprise that Angela was moving back. The girls were so excited. They spent the rest of the year together. I rated this book a 10 because it shows alot about how to help and keep best friends. This book did not only inspire me but it was a really good book to read and it kept me coming right back to it, and that's what i think makes a good book.
