Tyrell

This week I am reading the book Tyrell by Coe Booth. The books about the main character Tyrell who was facing making very tough decisions for him and his family. Tyrell had to deal with his dad being locked up and his mother not being responsible enough to take care of him and his brother. Tyrell had to grow up quick to handle the situations he was put in. A very big issue that Tyrell was put through was peer pressure and poverty.

Peer pressure came into the story as a big problem because of poverty. When Tyrell and his family had to enter a shelter because they had no place to live , Tyrell was being pressured to sell drugs with his friend to make money to support his family. While reading the book I noticed how Tyrell did face many situations usually someone his age would not be in but he handled them in most of the time better ways then most people would.

Nevertheless, while reading the book it was not all bad times. Tyrell did have good things happen to him not only in the end but also through out his story. However, in the end is where I really saw how Tyrell handled the tough situations in his life responsibly and sort of like an adult. Overall the book really showed me the struggle some people have to go through in order to live there life everyday and Tyrell was the perfect example of how anyone can do what they have to do to survive. Like at the end when he threw a big party and sacrificed his little amount of money on the hope that his party would be successful and he would make enough money to support and get his family out the shelter. I think this book if perfect for kids my age and they should read it.

World on Fire

This week I have decided to blog about a song, but we did not only listen to the song we also read the lyrics and wrote down our ideas. The song we listened to was World On Fire by Sarah McLachlan. When we actually got a chance to see the video my whole idea of what I thought it was about changed. In the video there were captions and it showed how she spent 150,000 dollars on the video, but the captions also showed how the 150,000 didn't go towards the video it went to people in need all over the world.

The video really made me think of what to most Americans is a little to people in need of food and water can go along way. For example 3,000 dollars can by 109,50 meals for people in another country. Today in America, most people worry about material things and name brand attire, but in countries like Kenya, India and way more they barely even have food and water to survive and stay alive. This makes me think back to many moments where I wanted something and was disappointed or upset when my parents did not get it for me. Now I am very fortunate and thankful for the things that god has blessed me with. Like even though most days I hate going to school, some people do not even get the opportunity to get an education and do extra activities like we get to do in Ms.51 like our talents.

The video really explained how the little amounts of money could go a very, very far way. Like even the littlest thing to you may mean the world to someone less fortunate. Have you ever complained and said hey mom I do not want to drink water I want juice well even though you maybe be fortunate enough to have a choice of what you may want to eat or drink. However, the video really made me think of how the littlest things in your life can change someone else’s.

Ending of Charlottes web

Now that I have finished Charlotte’s Web I have a whole new look at the characters and the things that happen at the begging of the book. At the begging of the book, we saw how Fern and Wilbur were inseparable but that shortly ended when Mr. Arable told Fern that Wilbur could no longer stay in their household and they would have to sell him. Fern was sad about that but quickly came up with an idea for her to sell him to her uncle Mr. Zuckerman who lived right up the road from the Arable. This broke Fern and Wilbur’s heart but it had to be done.

When Wilbur moved Fern would come from school everyday, sit with Wilbur for hours, and just watch him play. To me Fern did not take the move that hard but Wilbur on the other hand was not doing to good. As I kept on reading, I read how Wilbur was very lonely and friendless. Wilbur was the youngest animal there, all the other animals acted harsh towards him, and he felt he would never find anyone like Fern. Wilbur just hung around his pigpen day after day with no one to talk to and nothing to do. Wilbur felt this way until one night in the dark he heard a voice of someone telling him that they would be his friend. In addition, to his surprise, it was a little spider name Charlotte. I think charlotte rather became Ferns replacement in Wilbur’s life since Fern was not there as much as she uses to be. Charlotte ended up becoming like a mother to little Wilbur and he was very grateful for her.

Through out the middle of the book Wilbur got some terrible news about what the Zuckerman’s planned to do when the Christmas holiday came around and Wilbur wasn’t to happy about it. Even though Wilbur dodged death ounce before he did not think he could do it again. Nevertheless, little did he know the little spider he met would come to his rescue. Some ideas I had about charlottes character through the middle and ending of the book was that she and Fern were very alike. Like for example how they acted like a mother figure to Wilbur. However, they also had many differences even thought Fern was like a mother figure charlotte was more of a mother figure. Charlotte came off as a wise mother figure she gave Wilbur very insightful suggestions he could use through out life. In addition, since Fern was still very young, she could not provide that for Wilbur. Towards the ending of the book like always in a child book everything turned out to be fine except for one little spin that I was very surprised by but of course your would have to read the book to find out.

After reading this book when I was done reading it, I felt very different then I felt when I read the first couple of chapters. To me this book taught me the gift of having family or friends who care for you and would do anything for you. It also taught me to be great full of the people in my life. Charlotte’s web is truly a childhood favorite.

Charlottes Web

This week my class and I have recently started the book Charlotte's web. In the first chapter were introduced to Fern and her family and the little runt Wilbur. When I first started reading Charlotte's web I looked at Fern as a bright and careful young girl because the way she pointed out to her father how killing Wilbur because of his size was wrong she mad very understanding points for a 8 year old girl. I also think Fern related herself to the pig in that situation when she asked her dad if he would kill her just because she was small. Fern came off as a very courageous person in the beginning of the story

Even though I am still in the begging chapters of the book, I can already tell that Fern and Wilbur have a very strong bond and I do not think anyone would be able to break that not even ferns dad or a little separation of distance. Fern plays a strong mother role to Wilbur and you can tell she really loves him she takes care of him as if he is her own child and that shows how she cares for him deeply. I do not think Fern is the only one who has a soft spot in her heart for Wilbur; I also think her dad does to. I think Mr. Arable also feels that killing Wilbur is wrong. Because he could have easily said no , and not let Fern keep Wilbur and have killed him but he did’t he gave her a chance to fight for something she really believed in and that shows that he’s not all bad he can also do right.

Nevertheless, Fern and her dad was not the only one who developed strong feelings, Wilbur the pig also became attached to the whole family and life style they were providing him. I can also connect my self to Fern and Wilbur’s relationship with me and my dog not just because it’s a animal and human relationship but because we have became so connected to each other and it feels as if nothing can separate us and that’s how Fern and Wilbur are. In addition, even though fern is young and usually young children are fascinated with animals fern is not just interested in Wilbur she really loves him and by her saving his life and taking care of him you can tell that is a bond that could never be broken.

Soon I will be finishing the book and I hope to learn more about Wilbur and Fern and see where there relationship goes. However, so far, I give this book an A+ at keeping me drawn in and I cannot wait to get deeper into the book.
